What Is ACO Grease Capture?
ACO Grease Capture is a range of grease recovery units manufactured by ACO for commercial foodservice environments. For more information about the manufacturer and its wider range, visit our ACO grease management systems page.
Unlike a passive grease trap, which stores collected FOG inside the unit until it is emptied, ACO Grease Capture automatically transfers separated grease into its own collection container. Its compact under-sink format also makes it quite different from the larger grease separators used for more centralised applications.
For restaurants, cafés and other kitchens where room is limited, this gives you a way to intercept FOG close to the equipment producing the wastewater. You can also explore our wider range of commercial grease traps if you want to compare other options.
How Does ACO Grease Capture Work?
Wastewater enters the unit from the connected kitchen equipment, with coarse food debris caught before it reaches the main separation area. From there, the two-chamber design and coalescence gap help separate FOG from the wastewater.
The grease is collected separately before the remaining wastewater leaves the unit and continues into the drainage system.
Automatic FOG Removal
Separated fats, oils and grease are transferred into a dedicated collection container instead of remaining inside the main chamber.
For kitchen teams, that means less manual handling of grease within the unit and a simpler day-to-day approach to FOG management. Removing grease at source also reduces the amount entering internal drainage.
Two-Chamber Separation and Coalescence Gap
ACO Grease Capture uses two separation chambers together with ACO’s coalescence gap design. As wastewater moves through the unit, smaller grease droplets are encouraged to join together, making them easier to separate.
The result is an effective separation process within a relatively compact unit.
Food Debris Capture
A strainer basket catches larger food particles before they move further through the unit.
Keeping coarse debris away from the separation chamber supports normal operation and prevents those solids passing directly into the drainage system.
ACO Grease Capture Units
Aqua Mundus currently supplies four ACO Grease Capture units, with different rated flow rates to suit different kitchen requirements.
| Unit | Rated Flow Rate | Typical Selection Consideration |
| Grease Capture 500 | Up to 0.5 l/s | Lower wastewater flow requirements |
| Grease Capture 1000 | Up to 1.0 l/s | Kitchens requiring greater flow capacity |
| Grease Capture 1500 | Up to 1.5 l/s | Higher-flow foodservice applications |
| Grease Capture 2200 | Up to 2.2 l/s | Highest flow rate within the current Aqua Mundus range |
Choosing between them is not simply a case of looking at the size of your restaurant or kitchen. The flow from connected sinks and appliances needs to be considered alongside available space, FOG output and access for ongoing maintenance.
Why Choose ACO Grease Capture?
Compact Design for Space-Limited Kitchens
ACO Grease Capture is designed to sit beneath sinks or close to the equipment producing greasy wastewater.
For commercial kitchens where space is already tight, that can make it a practical alternative to a larger separator that would be difficult to accommodate.
Helps Reduce Drainage Blockage Risk
FOG can cool and collect inside kitchen drainage, gradually restricting flow and contributing to blockages.
By removing grease before the wastewater travels further through the system, a grease recovery unit can reduce the amount of FOG entering internal pipework.
Designed for Easy Maintenance
The food debris basket and grease collection container are both accessible for routine attention, making regular upkeep more manageable for kitchen teams.
Professional cleaning and servicing are still important. How often this is needed will depend on the unit, how heavily it is used and ACO’s guidance for that model.
Stainless Steel, Commercial Kitchen Construction
The ACO Grease Capture range is manufactured from stainless steel, giving the units a durable construction suited to commercial kitchen environments.
Adjustable feet and flexible inlet and outlet positioning also give installers more scope to work around different kitchen layouts.
Where Can ACO Grease Capture Be Used?
ACO identifies restaurants, cafés and smaller commercial kitchens as suitable applications for grease capture, particularly where there is limited room for grease management equipment.
The compact format can work well where an automatic grease removal unit needs to sit close to a sink or other source of greasy wastewater.
That does not mean every kitchen will need the same unit. Wastewater flow, FOG load, connected equipment, space and day-to-day kitchen use all need to be taken into account before a system is specified.
Choosing the Right ACO Grease Capture Unit
The starting point is the equipment that will discharge through the ACO Grease Capture unit. Sink capacity, connected appliances and wastewater flow will influence the required flow rate, while FOG output will affect the demands placed on the system.
Space is just as important. There needs to be enough room not only to install the unit and make the necessary plumbing connections, but also to access the debris basket and grease collection container during routine maintenance.
Aqua Mundus offers a FREE site survey so these details can be assessed before a unit is recommended. It removes the guesswork and helps ensure the selected model suits the kitchen it will actually be serving.
ACO Grease Capture Installation, Servicing and Support
Selecting the right unit is only the beginning. Aqua Mundus can support your ACO Grease Capture system from installation onwards, including cleaning, routine servicing and repairs when required.
Installation
Correct positioning and specification matter with an at-source system. Before installation, the available space, connected equipment, plumbing arrangement and future maintenance access all need to be considered.
Our engineers can carry out the grease trap installation and commissioning once the appropriate unit has been selected.
Cleaning and Maintenance
The debris basket and grease collection container need regular attention, while the wider unit should also be maintained in line with its usage and manufacturer guidance.
Aqua Mundus provides professional grease trap cleaning as well as planned grease trap servicing and maintenance, allowing ongoing support to be arranged around the demands of your kitchen.
Repairs and Replacement Parts
If your ACO Grease Capture unit develops a fault, our grease trap repair service can help identify the problem and determine what needs to be done.
Where appropriate, our engineers can carry out grease trap repairs or advise on replacement parts or other remedial work.

FAQs: Grease Capture FAQs
-
What Is ACO Grease Capture?
ACO grease capture is a compact grease recovery unit for commercial foodservice environments. Installed close to the source of wastewater, it separates fats, oils and grease before they can travel further into the drainage system.
It is manufactured by ACO and is particularly useful in kitchens where there is limited room for a larger grease separator.
-
How does an ACO Grease Capture unit work?
Wastewater enters the unit and first passes through a basket that catches coarse food debris. The two-chamber system and coalescence gap then help separate FOG from the wastewater.
Collected grease is transferred into a separate container, while the remaining wastewater continues into the drainage system.
-
What size ACO Grease Capture unit do I need?
The right size depends largely on the wastewater flow from the sinks and equipment connected to it. FOG output, kitchen use and the space available for installation should also be considered.
Aqua Mundus can assess these factors during a FREE site survey and recommend a unit suited to your kitchen.
-
Where can ACO Grease Capture be installed?
ACO Grease Capture is designed as a compact at-source system, so it can be fitted beneath sinks or near connected kitchen equipment where the plumbing arrangement allows.
There also needs to be enough room around the unit for connections, cleaning and routine maintenance.
-
How often does ACO Grease Capture need cleaning or servicing?
There is no single maintenance schedule that suits every installation. Frequency will depend on the model, how the kitchen operates and how much wastewater and FOG pass through the unit.
Maintenance should follow ACO’s guidance for the particular model, with professional servicing arranged according to actual kitchen use.
-
Is ACO Grease Capture suitable for restaurants?
Yes. Restaurants are one of the foodservice applications ACO identifies for Grease Capture, alongside cafés and smaller commercial kitchens.
The right size grease trap unit depends on the restaurant itself, including wastewater flow, connected equipment, FOG output and available space.
