Expert Commercial Grease Trap Repair
Commercial grease trap repair requires more than simply replacing a damaged part. Different systems work in different ways, and the fault may involve the trap itself, its components or the surrounding drainage.
Aqua Mundus works with grease traps of different sizes, brands and configurations, including units we did not originally supply or install. Our engineers also carry common spare grease trap parts for popular models, which improves the chances of resolving straightforward faults on the first visit.
Our grease trap repair services are focused on finding the problem, carrying out the right repair and keeping disruption to your kitchen as low as reasonably possible.
Common Grease Trap Problems We Repair
Grease trap faults do not always have an obvious cause. The same symptom can point to several different problems, which is why proper diagnosis comes first.
- Leaks and Damaged Seals or Connections
- Blockages and Slow Drains
- Overflows and Backed-Up Wastewater
- Foul Odours
- Corrosion or Damaged Components
- Faulty Automatic Grease-Removal Components
- Incorrect Installation or Poor Performance
- A Grease Trap That Is Undersized or No Longer Suitable for the Kitchen
Leaks and Damaged Seals or Connections
Water or FOG escaping around seals, joints or connections can indicate damage or wear within the system. We can inspect the unit and its connections to find where the leak is coming from and advise on the repair required.
Blockages and Slow Drains
Slow-running sinks or repeated blockages may be linked to the grease trap, although problems elsewhere in the drainage system can produce similar symptoms. If left unresolved, drainage issues can begin to interfere with normal kitchen operation.
Overflows and Backed-Up Wastewater
An overflowing grease trap needs attention quickly, particularly if wastewater is backing up towards sinks or kitchen equipment. Our engineers can investigate what is restricting the system before recommending a fix.
Foul Odours
Persistent grease trap smells may point to excessive FOG build-up, drainage problems or a fault within the system. Finding the source is important before deciding whether cleaning, repair or further drainage work is needed.
Corrosion or Damaged Components
Grease traps and their internal components can deteriorate over time. Where a damaged part can be repaired or replaced with a spare part, this may restore the system without the need for a complete replacement.
Faulty Automatic Grease-Removal Components
Automatic grease traps use mechanical and electrical parts to remove collected grease. If one of these components fails, the unit may stop operating as intended. We can inspect the system and identify which parts need attention.
Incorrect Installation or Poor Performance
Sometimes the trap itself is not faulty, but the way it has been installed is causing problems. Poor drainage, ineffective grease separation and repeated operational issues can all justify a closer look at the wider setup.
A Grease Trap That Is Undersized or No Longer Suitable for the Kitchen
Kitchen requirements change. Increased covers, new equipment or longer opening hours can leave an existing grease trap struggling with a workload it was never designed to handle. In these cases, we can assess whether repair, modification or replacement makes more sense.
Grease Trap Leak Repair, Blockages and Overflows
Leaks, blockages and overflows are some of the most disruptive grease trap faults, but they do not all have the same cause. A leak may come from a damaged seal, connection or component, while slow drainage or an overflow could originate within the trap or elsewhere in the drainage system.
Our grease trap leak repair service starts by finding the source of the problem. If the fault is within the unit, our engineers can carry out suitable repairs. If the issue extends into the surrounding drainage, we can advise on what needs to happen next.
The same applies if you need to fix a grease trap because of foul odours, poor separation, an installation problem or insufficient capacity. Diagnosing the cause first gives you a much better chance of solving the problem properly rather than simply treating the symptom.

We Repair a Wide Range of Commercial Grease Traps
Above ground or below ground, automatic or manual, at source or centralised, Aqua Mundus works with a broad range of commercial grease management systems. We can also assess units that we did not originally supply or install.
Above-Ground
We repair above-ground grease traps installed in and around commercial kitchens, including compact units positioned close to sinks and food preparation areas.
Below-Ground
Larger underground systems require different access and maintenance considerations. Aqua Mundus works with below-ground grease traps and can investigate faults affecting these centralised systems.
Automatic
Automatic grease-removal systems contain moving, mechanical or electrical components that may fail over time. Our engineers can inspect the unit and identify where the problem lies.
Manual
We can diagnose and repair faults affecting passive or manual grease traps, including issues with the unit itself, seals, connections and other components.
At-Source
At-source grease traps are generally fitted close to the equipment producing greasy wastewater. If performance drops, we can assess both the trap and its immediate connections.
Centralised
Centralised systems often serve several wastewater sources within a commercial kitchen. Where a fault develops, we can inspect the interceptor and the relevant surrounding setup before recommending a repair.
What If Your Grease Trap Cannot Be Repaired?
Repair is usually the first option where it is practical and worthwhile. There are times, however, when a grease trap has reached the end of its useful life or the cost and extent of the work mean replacement is the better option.
If that happens, Aqua Mundus can help you select and arrange a replacement through our grease trap installation service.
Where appropriate, temporary grease trap hire can also help keep grease management in place while a permanent replacement is being arranged.

Grease Trap Repairs and Compliance
A working grease management system helps prevent fats, oils and grease (FOG) from entering drainage systems, where they can cool, accumulate and contribute to serious blockages.
In England, Approved Document H covers foul water drainage and disposal. Its guidance for commercial hot-food premises states that drainage should incorporate a grease separator complying with BS EN 1825, or another effective means of grease removal.
That does not mean every business must use the same type of grease trap. The correct grease management provision depends on the premises, drainage setup and relevant requirements.

Free Site Surveys to Diagnose Grease Trap Issues
For new clients, Aqua Mundus offers free, no-obligation site surveys where a closer look at the grease management setup is needed.
An engineer can assess the grease trap alongside the kitchen layout, site access and surrounding drainage. This gives us the information needed to advise whether repair, maintenance or replacement is the most suitable route.
Prevent Future Breakdowns With Planned Grease Trap Servicing
Not every breakdown can be prevented, but regular inspection and maintenance can help catch developing problems before they become more disruptive. Cleaning also prevents excessive FOG build-up from placing unnecessary strain on the system.
Our Grease Trap Servicing & Maintenance programmes can include planned inspections, performance checks, cleaning and recommendations for repairs where needed. For busy commercial kitchens, this can help reduce repeat faults and unexpected downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Can you repair grease traps nationwide?
Across the entire UK mainland, we have a network of experienced grease trap engineers ready to spring into action when your grease traps fail. From the biggest cities like Birmingham, Manchester and Aberdeen to the farthest extremes, just get in touch and we’ll find our way to you.
-
How do you fix a leaking grease trap?
The repair depends on where the leak is coming from. An engineer will inspect the trap, seals, connections and relevant components to establish the cause first.
If a seal, fitting or replaceable part has failed, it may be possible to repair the unit without replacing it completely. More extensive damage will need to be assessed individually.
-
What are the signs that a grease trap needs repairing?
Common grease trap problems include leaks, recurring blockages, slow drainage, overflows, foul odours, visible corrosion and noticeably poorer grease separation.
Automatic units may also develop mechanical or electrical faults. Some of these symptoms can be caused by cleaning or drainage issues rather than the trap itself, so an inspection is the best way to establish what is actually wrong.
-
Can a commercial grease trap be repaired, or does it need replacing?
Many grease trap faults can be repaired, particularly when the problem involves a seal, connection or replaceable component.
Whether repair is worthwhile depends on the fault, the age and condition of the unit and whether it is still suitable for the kitchen. If replacement is the better option, Aqua Mundus can advise on an appropriate new system.
-
How quickly can Aqua Mundus repair a grease trap?
Aqua Mundus offers next-day repair support and may be able to provide same-day attendance where engineer availability allows.
How quickly the repair itself can be completed depends on the fault, site access and whether the required parts are available. If your grease trap has failed and is disrupting your kitchen, contact us as soon as possible so we can assess the situation.
-
Can you repair automatic and below-ground grease traps?
Yes. Aqua Mundus works with automatic and manual systems as well as above-ground and below-ground grease traps.
Below-ground units can require additional consideration because of access and their position within the drainage system, while automatic traps may involve mechanical or electrical components. Our engineers will assess the system before recommending the appropriate repair.
-
What happens if my grease trap cannot be repaired?
If the unit has reached the end of its useful life or a permanent repair is not practical, Aqua Mundus can help arrange a replacement.
Where suitable, a temporary grease trap can also be used while the longer-term solution is selected and installed, helping maintain grease management in the meantime.
-
Can regular servicing prevent grease trap breakdowns?
Regular servicing cannot guarantee that a grease trap will never fail, but it can reduce the risk of avoidable breakdowns.
Planned inspections help identify wear, damage and performance problems before they become more serious, while appropriate cleaning prevents excessive FOG build-up. Aqua Mundus can tailor servicing around the type of equipment and demands of your commercial kitchen.
