Under Building Regulations Part H, section 2.21, it specifies that, “Drainage serving kitchens in commercial hot food premises should be fitted with a grease separator complying with BS EN 1825-1:2004 and designed in accordance with BS EN 1825-2:2002 or other effective means of grease removal.” By using our grease trap sizing calculator, we can identify the nominal size (NS) of your system and recommend suitable grease management solutions to perfectly suit your needs.

What Size Grease Trap Do I Need?

Under the BS EN 1825 calculation, we can determine the correct size of grease trap using two methods:

Option 1 – Type of Kitchen

This looks at the type of operation, such as restaurant, school, hospital or hotel and requires the input of average meals per day as well as the kitchen’s operational hours per day.

Option 2 – Type of Equipment

This looks at all of the grease-producing equipment within the kitchen that requires treating as well as the quantity and dimensions of each particular sink or unit of kitchen equipment. This needs to be entered into the grease trap calculator to accurately work out the required nominal size of your grease management system.
